7th March
2009: Cambridge University
(2XI)
2-2
Vauxhall
(1XI)
The game started brightly for the
young university side who produced some early pressure.
The movement of Cambridge produced a dividend with a
well worked goal from open play. Vauxhall though
immediately reacted with a goal down the other end with
a fine close range effort from the skipper Amjid Ali.
Vauxhall took the upper hand through fine control from
Peer Saleem in midfield. Though again Cambridge
recovered the latter part of the first half with several
short corners, which the Vauxhall goalkeeper Yaqub Hanif
and defenders kept at bay. Vauxhall continued with some
good forward play from Amjid Ali down the right with a
great cross providing Arshad Mahmood with a ball that
was finished to Vauxhall a 2-1 lead. Though one short
corner got through via a drag flick in the top corner to
give Cambridge the equaliser to take the game into
halftime at 2-2.
The second half saw a tight midfield battle and some
good chances on both sides. Short corners were
squandered by the teams. Excellent goalkeeping from
Yaqub Hanif kept Vauxhall in the game especially when
they went down to 10 men for 10 mins. There were chances
on both sides in the second half but a 2-2 result was
probably about fair.
Man of the Match award: Great effort from skipper
Amjid Ali today but goalkeeper Yaqub Hanif pips him to
get a well deserved Man of the Match award.

Witham (1XI)

Vauxhall started the match with the
early pressure but several missed chances in the first
15mins cost them early on. Witham were on the back foot
but were more than capable of playing a counter
attacking game. This allowed them to benefit with a rare
attack to score and take the lead in the middle of the
first half.
Vauxhall continued
their attacking game but again with missed chances
particularly at short corners. It took a wonder run by
Sukhi from the half way line, beating the chasing
defenders and rounding the keeper to score a reverse hit
from the top of the D. The teams went in level at
halftime. The first 15mins of the second half were
pretty even and it felt like a draw was going to be the
likely result. However, Vauxhall's patience eventually
told and they were able to convert a brace of short
corners from Peer. He also added a third for himself to
make his hat trick and take the final score to 4-1. 3
points for Vauxhall and they remain in 3rd place, one
place off the promotion spot.
Man of the
match: Sukhi, for his wonder goal and forward work
rate.

Man of the match: Peer Amir Saleem

The first half saw Vauxhall making a cagey start.
Vauxhall were keeping the ball without making any
inroads into the St Neots defence. After 17
minutes, Vauxhall won a short corner. Bridgi collected
the ball and released to Peer (Amir Saleem) who’s first
time shot was blocked by the keeper only to see Peer
dispatch the rebound.
Within 2 minutes of taking the lead, the game saw its
most spectacular moment. Ali broke through the middle
and switched the ball left to Ash. Ash in turn found
Sukhi on the right. Sukhi appeared to drifting to the
right when he unleashed a ferocious shot into the roof
of the net. Peer then made 3-0 shortly afterwards when
the ball broke loose in the penalty D. St Neots pulled
one back shortly before the break through some slack
defending.
Then second half saw more misery for the away side as
Vauxhall won a penalty flick for a foul on Ash. Up
stepped Peer to complete his hat-trick. Peer got his 4th
goal of the game when he deflected in a cross shot from
Ali. Then Ali made 6-1 from a short corner. Ash Mahmood
completed the scoring when the St Neots keeper let in a
tame shot under his pads.
Man of the Match:
Amir Saleem
